Key takeaways

  • DJED’s codebase is now open source, giving developers tools to build wallets, dApps, and services on top of the stablecoin protocol
  • COTI introduces Private DJED, a multi-chain privacy-enabled version aimed at enterprise and institutional users
  • The stablecoin will be available on Cardano, COTI, and Midnight — a privacy-focused sidechain — to support compliant, shielded transactions

COTI and IOG unlock open access to DJED stablecoin, set stage for private multi-chain expansion

At the Rare Evo conference, COTI revealed a major update to DJED, the algorithmic stablecoin co-developed with Input Output Global (IOG). First launched in 2023, DJED has maintained its peg through volatile conditions, establishing itself as one of the more reliable stablecoins in the market. With its latest announcement, DJED is taking a new direction — opening up core parts of its infrastructure and expanding into private, multi-chain territory.

COTI is making DJED’s order API, chain indexer, and frontend publicly accessible, enabling developers to build custom integrations, frontends, and backend services. The move gives dApp creators and wallet developers new capabilities to bring DJED directly into their products.

“Open sourcing Djed gives Cardano developers the ability to inspect, extend, and build directly on the protocol, with transparency, driving faster innovation and deeper trust. This is a complex system engineered for uniquely high assurance: it’s grounded in formal methods, backed by very thorough testing, and has been running reliably on mainnet for 2.5 years.”

Private DJED: Privacy-first stablecoin enters enterprise and cross-chain DeFi

Beyond open sourcing, COTI also introduced Private DJED — a version of the stablecoin built with confidential transactions in mind. Powered by COTI’s privacy layer, which uses garbled circuits, Private DJED allows for shielded transfers, programmable privacy, and secure integration into complex dApps and decentralized financial systems.

This version will be available on the COTI blockchain, Cardano, and Midnight — Cardano’s privacy-centric sidechain. On COTI, Private DJED will support applications like enterprise finance, real-world asset tokenization, and private DeFi protocols. This move aligns with COTI’s broader strategy to scale enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure, including its participation in a coalition aiming to bring $1 trillion in assets on-chain. On Cardano, it will provide selective transaction visibility while remaining compliant. And through Midnight, Private DJED will gain multi-chain interoperability, enabling private asset transfers between blockchains like Solana, Avalanche, and XRP.

The bottom line

With its new capabilities, DJED becomes the first stablecoin to offer both native privacy features and multi-chain compatibility. The combination of open source access, programmable privacy, and cross-chain expansion positions it to support a wide range of applications — from community-driven dApps to institution-grade financial infrastructure.
